Antique split-frame Lockey and Howland apple peeler

Antique split-frame Lockey and Howland apple peeler. The condition is superb.  Great rich dark original patina in barely-used condition. The action on these cleverly engineered peelers is marvelous.  Just as the blade moves away from the peeled apple, the forks are pulled from the apple, leaving the apple dangling on the forks.  The inventor believed this was superior to having the apple bumped off the forks and causing it to bounce on the table or the ground.
This one is as good as can be found.  Just a delight to watch in action when the top gear moves out of alignment to extract the forks from the apple.  Very clever indeed.
